Top Gear proper, you know, the one that is from in the United Kingdom, has completed their year end round up of all things that are good from around the automotive world. Why am I writing a story about it here on FiestaST.org you may be asking yourself. Well, if I am reading this right, and many of you will assume, it was named the Hot Hatch of the Year. What is making me rub my eyes, and go back for a second look is the incredible fact that the Fiesta ST has also claimed the Car of the Year.
I think that bears repeating. The Car of the Year. And again. The Car of the Year from the same people that have cars like the the McLaren P1, Porsche 911 GT3, and Rolls Royce Wraith on the list of winners. For the money you have into a McLaren, you could have a Fiesta ST, in every color (7 of them), and still have enough money to buy a very nice home in Beverly Hills, feed an African nation for a year, and then pay someone about 30K to do nothing but wash your Fiesta ST's for a year.
According to the Top Gear Top Testers, "It's a car that invigorates, excites and rekindles some of the love you thought you'd lost for the simple stuff. A car that puts a smile on your face each and every day. It's the most enjoyable car of 2013." From the sound of it, the FiST makes them feel like they are 18, fresh license, and out on the town looking for a laugh. A car for the masses. Performance in the "volkswägen", if you will.
A usable car that puts a smile on your face without the need for a track. A great friend of mine described another hot hatch in a similar way, "I want to be able to jump in it and just TEAR through the first three gears as hard as I want, then look down and only be going 50 mph." Summed up, these cars are just fun! Bigger horsepower cars keep you in the first and second gears before you are WELL OVER the posted limits.
