Hey all! New to the forum and a lot of the threads have been helpful already!

So I am picking up the ST in a few days and I wanted to ask a few questions... Mostly about break-in for the engine.

Some background first; I am a car enthusiast and I would like to think I know my stuff pretty well... I have only ever owned turbocharged cars and I recently broke in my dad's 2013 GTI Driver's Edition and it went extremely well. We are about 12k into the odometer and the car feels terrific and the engine is running smoothly and the turbo is a happy camper! So the only concerns that I really have about proper break-in on the Fiesta is that I have never owned a car with such a high compression ratio as well as such a high amount of boost being produced. I am curious about the term of the break-in period (how many miles I should break it in) and I am also interested in whether I should treat it like a normal turbocharged car even though it has the over-boost feature... What I mean is; OBVIOUSLY I should vary RPM's and load on the engine and not go too high in the tach, but my question is how much should I be dipping into boost? I do not drive hard; never tracked and never street raced... Just little pulls here and there to have some fun so I don't plan on driving the Fiesta any differently. I just want to make sure I do the first few hundred-1000 miles THE RIGHT WAY so that the car will last as long as possible! Any advice or experience with this would be appreciated!

Glad to be a part of the forum!

Lower Michigan that be Troll country ?? LOL jk Welcome, sounds like you have a good idea how to break in your car your way and it will work no a days I don't know if there is a hard an fast rule about break in but your way should be fine.. Some folk still say break them in like you stole them or like you are going to drive them.. IT is your car treat it like you want.. Just get some proper heat cycles in the engine and no long steady rpm for the first few hundred miles or so with a easing into upper rpm now and again after a proper warm up. No Cold 5K clutch dumps ... But you seem to understand that ;) Enjoy and post pics when you get it ..
Oh ya what Color and options ??

Thanks! Yea I actually broke the GTI in on a 900 mile road trip... I couldn't relax the whole time because I kept shifting through the gears on the highway and doing cruise in 4th, 5th, and 6th to vary the RPM's! lol and TROLL COUNTRY GET THE HELL OUTTA HERE!! haha But I am getting the Fiesta in Tuxedo Black Metallic (not my first choice but it was all they had WITHOUT the options I couldn't afford) and the cloth sport seats =( with pretty much nothing else! The wheels aren't the painted ones either... I just simply can't afford the Recaro package even though things like heated mirrors would be super useful in Michigan and even though the Recaro seats are AMAZING. I still give the sport seats a lot of credit though! Still pretty darn supportive... Put it this way; I am buying the car for the engineering and the driving capabilities AND most of all because in terms of "bang for the buck" I truly believe this car cannot be beat... Dollar for power it is even better than the Focus ST... (my opinion of course)... But I love the aggressiveness of the suspension setup (I am not all about straight-line stuff; love the twistys). It's only even SOMEWHAT relevant competitors in the States are the Chevy Sonic RS (which is a DOG and feels so soft in terms of suspension; I drove my buddies...) and the Veloster Turbo which I have not driven but I don't like the way they look and I am picky about any asian cars that are on the market... It is hard for me to like them because of how crappy the materials are. And I don't even want to mention the Fiat 500 Abarth because the thing was just such a performance let-down and the price tag is RIDICULOUS compared to the Fiesta! Mini Cooper S's are also way too expensive... Almost 30k! I am a pre-med student and paying for school myself but I was not willing to give up having a nice car because I am WAY too much of an enthusiast... So Fiesta it is xD and I am pickin her up tomorrow morning first thing! SO EXCITED!!!

Lookin Forward to Pics ;) I hear ya on $$ for the seats I went back and forth on then then just snapped for them after deciding a aftermarket option was as pricey and didn't get the heated mirrors... Standard is GOOD.... I have driven a stock unit but not a recaro yet mine should be here this week as I was in Chicago being unloaded last Thursday...

Welcome, Chris. I had the same question on break-in and found the following statement on the subject in the Fiesta ST Supplement Manual:

Your vehicle does not need an extensive break–in. Try not to drive continuously atthe same speed for the first 1000 miles(1600 kilometers) of new vehicleoperation. Vary your speed frequently inorder to give the moving parts a chance tobreak in. Do not add friction modifier compoundsor special break–in oils since theseadditives may prevent piston ring seating.

Hope that helps.

The pictures are up on my profile too! Pictures of interior and engine bay coming as well..

Some plans after break in (after I get the oil changed at 1000 miles) include some various 20-100 pulls with some other cars to see where it stacks up! First roll will be against my buddies Mk6 GTI on his stock map and then if that is close (which I honestly think it will be) he will switch to his APR Stage 1 map and we will see how bad it is xD But I will have some videos up eventually! Can't wait to share em!

Cheers,
Chris
