The recipe for the perfect small car has always been simple: Take a lightweight, tiny-as-they-come, front-drive hatchback and drizzle on performance until things start to get weird. Despite that simplicity, carmakers don't always get it right. Today's small-hatch landscape stands woefully littered with machines that are overweight, underpowered, or both.
The 2014 Ford Fiesta ST is neither—the tiny hot hatch is back. Ford handed the featherweight Fiesta to its England-based Team RS, which poked and prodded the car in all the right places. Based on our drive at the ST's media launch in the hills of France, the humble subcompact has been carefully, iteratively transformed.
