Slighty Taller Tires for Winter

All,

I am in the final stages of selling my wife's civic and am planning on getting my FiST, Finally!!

Because I am in Colorado I am going to need to immediately put different tires on. I was looking at the Continental ExtremeContact DWS's

Tire rack has a good review of them and my buddy uses them as his winter tires on his 2011 BMW 335i.

The problem is they only come in 205/45/17 rather than 205/40/17.

Is there anything I should be concerned about trying to get the taller tires on the FiST? Besides the speedo being a little off ofcourse.

Has anyone already done this?

I have never tried to put a different tire size on a car before.

Thanks

I ordered a set of 215/45/17 just waiting for the car to come in...unfortunately it might be longer than I expected
We used 2 sets of EAP Focus SVT wheels and tires from my sons car to see if they would fit. They were both 215/45R17's, Blizzak WS70 and Sumitomo summers and we did not get any rubbing or interference front or rear. Not sure how much clearance was left and considering extra height caused by snow sticking on tires, we went with some nice Pirelli 205/45R17's on the stock wheels and they do not rub.
Some one on another forum has tried 205/50R17 and they rubbed.
Some one also tried 205/45R17 and they rubbed on the rear inner fabric wheel liner on bumps.
A lot of people seem to be going with 16" or 15" but we wanted to use the stock wheels for winter.
Your car might be different.
This might be a stupid question, but I have snow tires I bought for my 2012 Focus SEL, which I traded for the Fiesta ST. But im hoping to keep the tires for the Fiesta.

From what I understand (Off the Canadian Tire website), the fiesta ST standard tires are: 205/40/R17. Doing the math that's 719mm

The winter tires I have from my Focus are 195/65/R15, which is 702.75mm

In theory then my winter tires should be able to fit the Fiesta correct? Is there anything else I should be considering? Sorry if this is a stupid question
Not sure about the math but you will need to keep the tire Dia nearer 24 inchs or 610 mm here is a handy lil tool for sizing tires from the Miata guys .. I had a set of 205/50/17's that were about 25 inch dia. and they rubbed on full turn while going slow so I had to sell them and ended up with 15's at 195/55/15 which fit with no issues If you have them on rims try them and see just to make sure as I take NO credit for any math work ... LOL

I went the route of slightly taller tires. I opted for the 205/60 15 on TireRack steelies. The Tire is an inch taller compared to OEM, so it only requires 1/2" all the way around. I've been driving around for 2 days and so far no hint of any rubbing.

I also went a bit taller - got 205 50 16 for my winter set up. I love it. I might get summer wheels and tires in the same size vs stock 17"

205/45 17 A/S no rub but maybe a tiny bit when full lock turning but barely noticable.

Hi,

Just saw your wheels. What are they? Were you able to transfer the ST center cap? Thanks.
