Weird issue after every fill up

So the last 3 to 4 times I've filled my cars tank up, I'll drive the car for maybe half a mile, come to a stop at a light, and then the RPMs drop and the engine kind of stutters like it wants to die. It recovers and goes back to normal immediately after, but generally it will does this 2-3 times for the first mile or so while the car is stopped. After I drive it for a few minutes the problem is gone completely, or at least until I fill it up again.
The only thing I could think that would do this is water in the tank or a dirty fuel filter? But the car doesnt even have 2000 miles on it yet so I kinda doubt the latter...

Any one else experiencing this?

Hello guys,

I have 11 806 miles on my fiesta St 2014. And 2 weeks ago I filled up my fiesta ST after filling up. This is the first time it has done this: the RPMs drop and the engine die. After that I restart the car I don’t does have the problem.

The same issue arrive the next two filled up: the RPMs drop and the engine kind of stutters like it wants to die. It recovers and goes back to normal immediately after, but generally it will does this 2-3 times for the first mile or so while the car is stopped. After I drive it for a few minutes the problem is gone completely, or at least until I fill it up again.

Does anyone have find an issue for this problem? (I have seen a couple of people go to the dealer for try to fix the problem does the fix made by the dealer works?)
My 2011 Fiesta SES/Auto (76000 miles) exhibits both of these conditions infrequently. It will stall out in the gas station after a fill-up but generally runs okay afterwards. At the next fill-up, there is sometimes a little "wet gas" on the black filler surround. And when it's hot outside or I've run the vehicle continuously for three to four hours, it will sometimes throw an 068 CEL code (throttle issue). The 2014 ST (41000 miles) has not had the stalling problem but I'll see a little gas in the filler area once in a while.

I've been having the same issue as some of you after filling up. I'll fill up (93 octane with 10-15% Ethanol; since day one), start the car, drive off and when coming to an idle stop the RPMs start to dip. This only happens once after the initial fill-up.

Last night and today I noticed the engine has a rough idle, and when accelerating between 1.5-2.5k RPM the car kind of 'hic-ups'.

I haven't read over the whole thread, but I remember someone mentioning it could be the fuel pump, or a vapor system causing the "post-fill-up" issue?

Anyone else have the same issues, or confirmed what's causing them?

EDIT: I've had the car for a year and a half now, recently passing 18k on the odometer.

Hello guys,

I will go to the dealer today for and he didn’t found anything abnormal but, they have verify the EVAP canister and the appeared to be heavier than normal.

The technician thought that the valve in the canister is not always watertight allowing gas to enter in the canister, which could cause my problem.

A new canister will be in order. I will give you a update when the new canister will be install.

For anyone still having this issue, are you leaving the nozzle in the pump for about 5 seconds after it clicks to stop filling? It was addressed on page 8 of this thread. It is also in the instruction manual addressing the capless system. If you're leaving the nozzle in and still have issues you might be a candidate for the fuel pump recall.

Hello guys,

Just for your information, after I went to the dealer to investigate my problem of RPM drops after the filled up.

I have filled up my fiesta two times before my appointment to the dealer for the replacement of my EVAP CANISTER. And this two times my car restart great no problem. I think is probably because the technician have remove the EVAP CANISTER for inspect then and in the same time they have help to evacuate fuel gaz.

Finally I went to the dealer last Friday for the replacement of my canister. Effectively when you compare the two CANISTER the new vs the Old the old is more envy (abnormal). For the moment I don’t have need to fill up my car.

But I think the problem is probably sold. I will keep you informed if the problem comes back!

I've never had the problem myself, but after reading about it here, ... When I finish filling, i wait about 3 seconds, then run the fuel hose in and out of the flapper door three or four times just to make sure that the pressure has a chance to equalize. I don't know if it helps, but it's easy to do. Something to try.

Had the EXACT same issue, except, on a couple occasions, the engine actually stalled completely. Brought it to the dealership and they found out it was a faulty evap purge valve. After a fill-up, the valve would allow raw fuel to be sucked into the evap system and would , basically, flood the engine, causing the stumble/stall. They replaced the valve under warranty and all is fine 2 months later. Make sure to have them inspect the evap system to make sure there's no raw fuel sitting in there, particularly the charcoal canister. They should replace, if so.
