SWEET thx! I have a few hardwire kits laying around and an add a fuze adapter. i love how the fusebox isnt on the DS anymore! I will get to doing that.

Thanks to all the contributors and the OP. I did this a few weeks ago, and it makes all the difference. I couldn't get the top clip of the A pillar off, but I was able to pull the cable threw. Now I just need to get the v1 dialed in, living in the suburbs, the damn thing goes off every 12 seconds.

Speaking of Radar Detectors, has anyone come across any law enforcement agencies using the FiST as unmarked patrol cars?

I think I spotted one in my neighbouring State this weekend cruising the local mountain road along with undercover motor bikes. Interesting...

NB: In Australia, the police currently use unmarked Golf GTIs (amongst other similar performance vehicles) to cruise around in, so my "spotting" could be pretty right on the money!

Glad it helped you guys out. Good ideas there too tbST.

I haven't seen any fiesta cop cars. Tonnnnns of new Tauruses though.

Doing this as i type.
I did everything the same, but passed it through a small opening to the right of the glove box, behind the weatherstripping.
Took a dinner break so i will edit this and add a pic when i get back out there.

Yeah I'd like to see that opening. Might be a better option!

So, I apologize. All I have to take photos is my phone and it was getting dark.
This is the view from inside the glovebox compartment looking towards the right/passenger side of the vehicle.

and this is the view from within the weatherstriping. This photo is practically worthless and I will try to take a better one tomorrow in the day light. If you pull the weatherstripping back, you should be able to see light coming through from the glovebox compartment. i just passed it through there

I used a very similar opening on my SVT Focus when I had it hardwired in it. It is a gap between the dash the the actual frame of the car.

Here are the best pics I can get of the opening between the frame and the dash. If you pull the weatherstripping and open your glovebox, you should see a lit up section

I used this thread as a guide to wiring up a rear view camera that needed 12v ignition-on power and used the fuse for the reverse lights because it's one of the only ones that's only active with the ignition instead of always on and had a 10 amp fuse. My fuse tap maxed out at 10 amps. Thanks for the help!

I had my v1 hardwired at a local stereo shop. I also got a schematic from Vatlentine showing the mute circuit. the stereo guys ran the wiring up he a pillar like you
did but also tapped into the mute circuit and installed as mall button to mute the detector without reaching for it.. he button is between he fan and the temp. controls on the console.

love it

What size ring terminal did you use to fit over that bolt? And since you've had it hardwired for awhile now, I'm guessing that bolt is working as a good ground?

Thanks for the write-up!

I can't remember the exact size of the terminal, but it was at least 4mm inner diameter. I had a bunch laying around and just tried a few different ones. Sorry!

But yeah its a good ground, it's still working fine.

Haha that's alright...I don't have any at all so I'll just get the huge assortment kit so next time I won't even have to worry!

And awesome...wasn't sure if it was maybe an aluminum bolt to cause a crapppy ground, glad it still works perfect!

Thanks

How easy would it be to have a dashcam and radar hooked up like this, any easy way to share the wiring or just run both the same way?
You should be able to use the same type of setup, but probably have to use separate wiring, and you need to find another fuse to tap since you can only put one tap in each fuse location.

Yeah it's a good ground. Haven't fiddled with anything since the day I installed everything!

@brownievk I saw that someone had tapped into the reverse lights fuse since it's also a hot fuse only...so there's that!

Thank you, this helped a lot!

Just so everyone knows I had to use a spade type ring wire connector (open kind) because the bolt you used for ground is very large. Just be wary of this when you go get the ring wire connector.

I also ended up bending the connector to like a 90° thing because the location of the bolt is pretty recessed.
